Punta del Este bus terminal operations to remain unchanged for summer season

The Intendencia de Maldonado (IDM) has decided not to implement operational changes to the Punta del Este bus terminal for the upcoming summer season. Álvaro Villegas, the IDM general secretary, announced that current conditions do not support a transformation of the terminal's operations at this time.

Officials stated that any significant changes to the Punta del Este terminal must be coordinated with the transformation of the Maldonado terminal. The decision is part of a broader mobility reform plan intended to address the 25% population increase in Maldonado over the last decade and the influx of tourists. This plan includes modernizing public transport, constructing bike lanes, and improving road safety and infrastructure.

The administration will continue to evaluate technical inputs from the new terminal concessionaire, the Punta del Este Municipality, the Center for Economic Research (CINVE), and the Faculty of Architecture at the University of the Republic to inform future planning.
