Punta del Este International Marathon concludes with thousands of participants

The 17th edition of the Punta del Este International Marathon took place this Sunday, drawing between 5,200 and 6,000 competitors across various distances, including 42k, 21k, 10k, and 5k. The event featured athletes from Maldonado, Uruguay, as well as international participants from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay.

In the main 42km race, Alexis Castro secured first place with a time of 2:24:15, followed by Julio Saroba and Nidgie Da Silva. The 21k half-marathon was won by Nicolás Espinosa with a time of 1:08:57. Other winners included Óscar Cáceres in the 10k category and Rafael Scabino in the 5k category.

The course spanned iconic locations in Punta del Este and Maldonado, including Playa Brava and the bridges of La Barra. The event emphasized inclusivity, offering adapted categories for blind athletes, wheelchair users, hand-bikers, and individuals with prosthetics or hearing impairments. Local officials noted the event's positive impact on regional tourism, hospitality, and gastronomy.
