Punta di Mola Committee formed to combat coastal erosion in Marina di Ragusa

More than one hundred residents in Marina di Ragusa have formed the spontaneous Punta di Mola Committee to demand urgent interventions for coastal protection and urban redevelopment. The group is highlighting severe coastal erosion that is increasingly threatening the local road and bicycle paths due to storm surges.

Key priorities for the committee include the immediate implementation of submerged barriers, a project valued at approximately 1.2 million euros, to prevent further land loss. Beyond erosion control, residents are calling for improved accessibility, the removal of architectural barriers for people with disabilities, and enhanced services to help the area regain its Blue Flag status.

Local political leaders, including Democratic Party group leader Peppe Calabrese and regional deputy Nello Dipasquale, have met with the committee to discuss institutional paths for action. Dipasquale has committed to verifying the availability of regional resources and programmed interventions with the Sicilian Regional Government to address the emergency before structural collapses occur.
