Punta Esmeralda beach access in Playa del Carmen will not have a gate

Authorities in Playa del Carmen have clarified that the access point to Punta Esmeralda beach will not feature a gate or any mechanism to restrict public entry. Doris Aké Sierra, the municipal secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, stated that while the rehabilitation project includes an access arch, it is intended solely to delimit the area of the path being renovated.

The clarification follows concerns from local residents who noted that project renders and early construction work appeared to include a gate. Luis Herrera Quian, the general secretary of the City Council, previously noted that a gate had been considered for security purposes but emphasized that the project remained open to modifications.

Officials reiterated that the beach remains free to access without specific hours or restrictions. The current rehabilitation works are expected to last approximately three months, and a temporary mesh has been installed only to prevent accidents during construction.
