Punta Marina driver identified after striking peacock

A 39-year-old man from Ravenna is facing charges for animal killing after striking a peacock in the northern Italian seaside town of Punta Marina. The incident was captured by a dashcam from another vehicle, which allowed the Carabinieri to identify the driver who fled the scene after the collision.

The event has drawn significant attention due to the long-standing presence of a wild peacock colony in the area. For over a decade, an estimated 200 or more peacocks have lived freely in Punta Marina. While tourists often visit to photograph the exotic birds, local residents have reported increasing tensions regarding the population, citing noise during mating season, property damage, and safety concerns on the roads.
