Punta Tombo penguin season inaugurated in Chubut
Chubut Governor Ignacio Torres officially inaugurated the 2026/2027 Magellanic penguin season at the Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area. The site hosts one of the largest continental breeding colonies of the species in the world.
The opening follows a cycle that saw over 96,000 visitors. This new season features significant infrastructure improvements resulting from a co-administration agreement between the provincial state and the Trelew Tourism Entity. Upgrades include renovated access via Provincial Route 42, improved signage, new security cameras, and the addition of an immersive audiovisual room.
Additional works include the renovation of 1,500 meters of trails, improved accessibility with ramps, and updated facilities such as the confectionery and septic systems to ensure a safer and more inclusive experience for tourists.
