Puntagorda Municipal Council Rejects 2026 Budget Over Investment Cuts
The Partido Popular (PP) group in the Ayuntamiento de Puntagorda voted against the municipality's 2026 budget, arguing that the plan prioritises current spending over long‑term investment. PP spokesperson Alfonso Ballesteros highlighted a roughly 20 % reduction in overall revenues compared with the previous year and a near 74 % drop in the investment line, while personnel, goods, services and current‑transfer expenses rise.
Ballesteros criticised the lack of detail in the proposed Municipal Investment Plan, which allocates only €250,000 without specifying projects, locations, timelines or development stages. He called for a budget with clearer priorities, greater transparency and stronger focus on safety‑related infrastructure such as road improvements, landslide stabilization, protective installations, and sports facilities. The PP acknowledged positive aspects like enhanced social services, elder‑care facilities and employment programmes, but maintained that the council needs a more transformative financial plan.
The rejection was recorded during the latest ordinary plenary session, reflecting the opposition's demand for a budget that better supports the municipality’s quality‑of‑life goals.
