Puntarenas cantons launch ‘Ruta del Sur’ tourism strategy
Six cantons in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica have launched the ‘Ruta del Sur’ (Southern Route) to establish the region as a consolidated tourism destination. The strategy involves Osa, Buenos Aires, Puerto Jiménez, Golfito, Corredores, and Coto Brus working together to offer complementary experiences rather than competing for visitors.
The initiative aims to encourage travelers to explore multiple areas of the South by leveraging existing natural attractions, hotels, and restaurants. By combining their offerings, the cantons hope to provide a diverse range of activities, such as whale watching in Golfo Dulce or Osa, ensuring that visitors stay longer and experience the full breadth of the territory.
