Motagua and Alajuelense draw 0-0 in Concacaf semifinal first leg

Motagua and Liga Deportiva Alajuelense played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Concacaf Central American Cup 2026 semifinals at the Estadio Nacional Chelato Uclés in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The result leaves the series open ahead of the second leg, scheduled for October 29 at Alajuelense’s home stadium, Alejandro Morera Soto, in Costa Rica.

Alajuelense coach Óscar Ramírez defended his tactical approach despite criticisms of being too defensive, comparing the series to a boxing match where timing is essential. He also noted that captain Celso Borges left the match as a precaution to avoid aggravating a physical discomfort. Due to away goals rules, Alajuelense must win the return leg to guarantee advancement, while Motagua can progress with a win or a high-scoring draw.

Motagua manager Javier López expressed confidence regarding the return leg, stating that the team is not intimidated by playing away and believes scoring an away goal will create more opportunities to secure a place in the final.
