Puntland Forces and Somali Government Near Armed Clash in Galkayo

Forces based in Puntland and led by Jimcaale Jamaac Takar warned that reports of an armed confrontation threaten civilians and the region's stability. They accused President Said Abdullahi Deni of escalating political and security tensions and called for restraint and dialogue.

Former Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke cautioned that a growing military buildup around the central town of Galkayo between the federal government and Puntland could spark open warfare, divert resources from the fight against Al‑Shabaab and ISIS, and trigger a humanitarian crisis. Former Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse Ali echoed the warning, noting the dispute over the federal appointment of Gen. Jimale Takar and urging political leaders to seek a credible elections agreement instead of expanding the conflict.
