Pupin series premieres in New York to launch scientific heritage initiative

The series ‘Pupin’ held its U.S. premiere in New York on September 14 at Columbia University’s Lee C. Bollinger Forum. The screening featured the fifth episode, depicting Pupin’s time as a student at the university. The event was attended by approximately one hundred members of the academic community and included speakers such as Professor Vladimir Cizelj, founder of the Vlatacom Institute, and series producer Ana Gobeljić.

A subsequent screening took place on September 15 at the Bell Labs museum in Murray Hill, New Jersey. During this event, Professor Cizelj and Ana Gobeljić presented the museum with a replica of Pupin’s inductive coupler.

The ten-part drama, produced by Radio Television of Serbia, is based on Mihajlo Pupin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiography, ‘From a Shepherd to a Scientist’. The premiere marks the launch of the Mihajlo Pupin Heritage Preservation Initiative, led by Gobeljić in partnership with the Vlatacom Institute. The initiative aims to highlight Pupin’s foundational role in global scientific institutions, including his 46-year teaching tenure at Columbia University, his 1901 patent that enabled intercity telephony, and his involvement with NACA, the predecessor to NASA.
