Pupuk Kaltim ammonia plant revamp to save Rp228 billion annually
Pupuk Kaltim has successfully completed a revamping project for its Ammonia Plant-2, which is projected to save approximately Rp228 billion (US$14.3 million) per year. The project, conducted in collaboration with Swiss technology licensor Casale SA, has met all agreed performance targets.
During a 168-hour continuous performance test in August 2026, the plant demonstrated a reduction in energy consumption of over 10 percent, dropping from 39.28 to 35.25 MMBtu per ton of ammonia. Additionally, the revamping increased daily ammonia production capacity by 4.18 percent. Pupuk Kaltim CEO Rafli Yandra stated that the improved efficiency and more reliable urea feedstock supply will help maintain strong production performance to support national food security.
