The Puracé volcano in Colombia remains under an orange alert following significant seismic activity and ash emissions. The Servicio Geológico Colombiano (SGC) reported approximately 100 seismic events between September 1 and September 3, primarily associated with rock fracturing (volcano-tectonic activity) located 10 to 15 kilometers northeast of the volcano at depths of 6 to 11 kilometers. The maximum magnitude recorded was 2.7 ML.

In addition to distal seismicity, the SGC noted a predominance of seismic signals related to fluid dynamics within the volcanic conduits, specifically tremors located under the crater at depths of less than 2 kilometers. Monitoring indicates ongoing emissions of sulfur dioxide and an upward trend in ground-measured carbon dioxide levels. Ash emissions have also been observed.

Slow ground deformation is persisting in the area encompassing the Puracé, Piocollo, and Curiquinga volcanoes. While satellite data shows no thermal anomalies at the crater floor, authorities have advised the community to avoid approaching the craters or riverheads originating from the volcanoes due to the risk of sudden gas and ash releases. Residents in the municipalities of Totoró and Puracé remain under permanent surveillance.
