PURC resolves over 98% of utility complaints in Ghana’s Volta/Oti and Eastern regions

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) reported that it resolved 99.56% of 1,835 consumer complaints in the Volta and Oti regions during the first half of 2026, tackling issues raised against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL). The commission also completed 17 mechanised boreholes in underserved communities and facilitated infrastructure upgrades, including new transformers and a faulty meter replacement.

In the Eastern region, PURC cleared 98.2% of 818 complaints, most of which concerned power outages, voltage instability and water supply interruptions. The regulator helped replace seven electricity poles and two transformers, restored water service to Agavenya after road‑construction disruption, and organized complaint clinics that engaged hundreds of residents. Both regions reported high consumer satisfaction with the commission’s interventions.
