Purdue Football resumes practice amid academic and defensive shifts
Purdue Football has resumed practice in West Lafayette as the fall semester begins. Head coach Barry Odom highlighted the program's recent academic success, noting that the team achieved its highest cumulative GPA in program history over the last three semesters, including a 3.32 GPA during the 2025-26 academic year.
Following a recent scrimmage at Ross-Ade Stadium, Odom reported improved execution on both sides of the ball, specifically noting progress in quarterback play and offensive line communication. The team is working to address issues from the previous season, such as high turnover rates and low red-zone scoring efficiency.
Defensive coordinator Kevin Kane, who returned to the program after the 2024 season, stated he is taking full control of the defense. Kane intends to implement an aggressive philosophy focused on constant pressure from defensive linemen and edge rushers to increase takeaways.
