Purdue Golf Trio Enters US Amateur as Boilermakers Gear Up for New Seasons

Three Purdue golfers—senior Sam Easterbrook, sophomore Will Harvey and 2025 graduate Kent Hsiao—will compete in the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship in Philadelphia, beginning on Aug. 10. The tournament will feature 312 players in stroke‑play qualifying at Merion Golf Club and the Philadelphia Country Club, with match play to follow through Aug. 16. Easterbrook, ranked 80th in the WAGR, earned his spot as a top‑100 point leader; the trio hopes to advance further than any Boilermaker since Bill Hoffer reached the quarterfinals in 1984.

Meanwhile, Purdue’s broader athletic program is in a busy offseason. The men’s basketball team recently completed a four‑game trip to Canada, and both football and volleyball teams are preparing for their 2026 seasons. The university is also conducting a search for a new athletic director. Volleyball coach Dave Shondell highlighted the team’s strong returning talent and preseason All‑American candidates, projecting a potential run to the NCAA Final Four. Other programs, including men’s and women’s golf, have also seen recent success.
