Purdue University develops wearable for automatic epinephrine delivery
Researchers at Purdue University, led by Professor Muhammad Hussain, have developed a patent-pending wearable device designed to automatically deliver epinephrine during anaphylaxis. The device aims to address the critical delay in medication administration, as many patients fail to use their auto-injectors in time during a severe allergic reaction.
The wearable monitors various physiological signals to learn a user’s normal state. If the device detects signs of anaphylaxis with sufficient confidence, it can trigger the injection automatically. This technology seeks to mitigate the human error and decision-making delays that contribute to anaphylaxis-related fatalities.
