Puri beach waste installation enters India Book of Records

A large-scale art installation created from marine waste collected at Puri beach has earned a place in the India Book of Records. The installation, titled ‘Largest Artistic Display for Coastal and Marine Conservation Awareness’, was developed by Spandan in partnership with the HCL Foundation.

The project utilized over 10,000 kg of solid waste, including discarded fishing nets and gear, recovered during a major coastal cleanup drive on September 19. The cleanup involved approximately 700 participants, including marine activists, volunteers, the Indian Coast Guard, and various local organizations.

Local community members used the segregated waste to create the artwork, which was displayed at Penthakotta in Puri on September 28. The initiative aims to raise awareness regarding marine pollution and the specific threats that fishing-related waste poses to marine biodiversity and coastal ecosystems.
