Puripol Boonson wins 200m gold at Asian Games
Thai sprinter Puripol Boonson has achieved significant success at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Following a gold medal in the 100m, Boonson secured a second gold in the men's 200m final with a time of 19.88 seconds.
This performance broke the previous Asian Games record set during his own semi-final run of 20.10 seconds and equaled the existing Asian record held by China's Xie Zhenye. Boonson's victory marks the first time a Thai athlete has won the men's 200m gold at the Asian Games in 52 years.
Other notable athletic achievements at the games include Bahrain's Salwa Naser breaking the women's 400m record and Nelly Norah setting a new record in the 1500m. In weightlifting, Masanori Miyamoto of Japan and Ri Won Ju of North Korea both established new world records in their respective categories.
