Purmamarca church restoration completed using ancestral techniques

The Provincial Architecture Directorate has completed comprehensive maintenance and repair work on the church in Purmamarca, Argentina. The project focused on repairing the roof, which had suffered damage due to heavy rainfall over the past year.

To preserve the building's heritage value, the restoration utilized ancestral construction techniques, such as the traditional mud cake method. Local cooperatives with specialized knowledge of regional techniques performed the work, using local materials like mud and straw. While modern high-resistance plastics were added for structural protection, the repairs to the walls and plastering primarily employed traditional mixtures of mud and lime to address cracks and seismic damage.
