Purépecha Plateau promoted as cultural and ecotourism destination

The Purépecha Plateau in Michoacán, Mexico, is being promoted as a major cultural and ecotourism destination. Roberto Monroy García, head of the Michoacán Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur), highlighted the region's natural wealth, including forests and trails, alongside its preserved indigenous traditions and ancestral gastronomy.

The municipality of Paracho is noted for its international reputation in guitar making. Local communities contribute diverse artisanal legacies: Ahuirán specializes in violins, rebozos, and wood carvings; Aranza is known for textiles; Cheranástico focuses on cross-stitch embroidery; and Pomacuarán is recognized for fine openwork.

Other communities such as Nurio, Cocucho, Zacán, and Charapan offer landscapes characterized by starry skies and living ancestral traditions. Tourism information is available through the official Michoacán tourism portal, which features Mexico’s first virtual tourism assistant, Tata Pancho.
