Purvanchal agricultural exports exceed 1,000 tonnes annually

Agricultural exports of perishable fresh produce from the Purvanchal region in eastern Uttar Pradesh have surpassed the 1,000-metric-tonne annual mark. Data from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) shows that shipments through Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport rose from 4 MT in 2020-21 to 1,032 MT in 2024-25. Despite a slight dip to 1,010 MT in 2025-26 due to trade disruptions in the Middle East, volumes have remained above the 1,000-tonne threshold.

The exported goods include a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers such as mangoes, litchi, green peas, okra, chilies, and marigolds. These products are being shipped to markets in Europe, the Gulf, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

To support this growth, APEDA and the state government have implemented capacity-building programs and buyer-seller meetings to help farmers meet international quality standards. Efforts have focused on reducing intermediaries by connecting approximately 20,000 farmers and 50 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) directly to export channels. Improvements in airport infrastructure, including customs and quarantine facilities, have also facilitated the increase in shipment volumes.
