Purwokerto Station sees 32 percent passenger surge during local festivals

Passenger arrivals at Purwokerto Station increased by 32 percent on Saturday, August 22, 2026, driven by local cultural and sporting events. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 5 Purwokerto reported that 6,870 passengers arrived at the station, a significant rise from the August daily average of approximately 5,190 passengers.

The surge is attributed to major regional activities, including the Festival Kentongan Banyumas 2026 and the Purwokerto City Run 2026. Most travelers arrived from major cities across Java, such as Jakarta and Yogyakarta, indicating that rail travel is a primary transport choice for those attending these events.

M. As’ad Habibuddin, Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto, stated that these events serve as significant tourist attractions that boost regional mobility and demonstrate the public's trust in rail services for safe and comfortable travel.
