Pushkar Singh Dhami defends Election Commission's decisions

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed recent controversies regarding the Election Commission of India and its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process during a press conference. Dhami emphasized that the strength of Indian democracy lies in its constitutional institutions and argued that the official decisions of the Election Commission must be respected in their final institutional form.

Addressing claims of internal dissent, Dhami clarified that the original SIR order issued on June 24, 2025, and subsequent schedules for 19 states and union territories were approved by the full Commission. He noted that while internal notes or individual objections may exist, the official position is that the final orders were reached through consensus. He criticized the tendency to present internal comments as institutional breakdowns, stating that facts should be determined by official files rather than headlines.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister cited a Supreme Court decision from May 27, 2026, which upheld the legality of the Election Commission’s powers and procedures regarding SIR in Bihar.
