Putevi Srbije denies reports of cracked pillar on Pančevački Bridge

Putevi Srbije has denied social media reports claiming that a load-bearing pillar of the Pančevački Bridge in Belgrade has cracked. The company stated that the bridge undergoes regular and enhanced maintenance, and a new specialist inspection is currently underway, which occurs every five years.

During the inspection of the concrete approach construction on the right bank of the Danube, it was determined that two external prestressing cables need replacement. Scaffolding has been erected beneath the bridge to facilitate these works. Additionally, temporary supports have been installed to reinforce the approach construction on the right bank.

A ban on vehicles exceeding 12 tons has been in effect for five years following a specialist review by the design firm ‘Mostprojekt’ to ensure structural stability and road safety. Putevi Srbije noted that traffic police are frequently present because some drivers continue to ignore this weight restriction.

Plans are also in progress to demolish old approach structures and build new ones on the right side of the Danube. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of next year, pending building permits and the selection of a contractor, though the timeline depends on related regional projects including a new Belgrade metro station and a tunnel.
