Putin blames Western globalists for instability as ISW warns of NATO 'mini-attacks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has attributed current European instability to a system failure caused by “globalist circles” in the West. During a media inquiry regarding political shifts in Germany, Putin claimed that following the end of the Cold War, Western elites viewed themselves as infallible, leading to an accumulation of political, security, and economic mistakes. He further asserted that the West bears responsibility for the war in Ukraine due to the expansion of NATO.

Concurrently, a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) warns that while a full-scale Russian invasion of a NATO member state is unlikely during the ongoing war in Ukraine, Putin may opt for “mini-attacks” to test NATO's cohesion. The report suggests Russia could utilize limited drone operations or localized provocations to stress Article 5. Experts advise allies to remain vigilant regarding small, gradual changes in Russian troop positioning and potential disinformation campaigns, such as accusations of oppression against Russian minorities in border nations like Estonia.
