Putin declares Russian forces advancing in Ukraine while urging peaceful resolution

President Vladimir Putin said Russian troops are advancing along the entire front in Ukraine but affirmed Moscow’s readiness to reach a peaceful settlement, referencing the August 2025 summit in Alaska with former U.S. President Donald Trump. He indicated Russia does not oppose Ukraine’s EU membership or economic integration, but objects to the EU becoming a military bloc, and noted Germany’s proposal for Ukraine to become an associated EU member.

Military analyst Gastone Breccia observed that Ukrainian forces are reclaiming modest ground, particularly in the south, where Ukrainian drones repeatedly strike Russian supply lines, including the highway and railway that link Crimea to Russia. He warned that Russia faces recruitment shortages, having exhausted conscription among Siberian, Caucasian, and prison populations, and must now enlist core Russian citizens, raising internal risks. Both sides face logistical strains, and the approaching winter heightens the urgency for any cease‑fire discussion.
