Putin denies Russia is preparing for combat with Europe
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that Russia is not preparing for any kind of combat with Europe, dismissing claims that Moscow is planning military aggression against NATO countries.
Speaking at the International Cultural Forum in Saint Petersburg, Putin noted that while various proposals to resume peace negotiations with Ukraine remain on the table, Russia will carefully consider its next steps in response to recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory. He attributed the current stalemate in diplomatic efforts to these recent military actions by Kyiv.
Previous mediation efforts involving the United States, including rounds of negotiations in 2025 following a summit between Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, have stalled. The diplomatic process remains frozen due to conflicting positions regarding annexed Ukrainian territories.
