Putin Reaffirms Commitment to Krasnoyarsk Metro Project

During a visit to Krasnoyarsk on 3 August, Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged again that the long‑delayed metro will be completed, marking his fourth such promise in eight years. The project, originally launched in 1983 under the Soviet Union, has repeatedly missed deadlines despite earlier commitments in 2018, 2021 and a 2023 decree that set a 2026 completion target.

The regional governor, Michail Kotukov, said the metro remains in the documentation phase and that financing is the main obstacle. Putin noted, “Peniaze sú. Problémom však je, či náklady určia dodávatelia, regulačné orgány alebo štátni experti,” and added, “Dúfam, že napokon bude postavené ešte za našich čias.” Roughly 12 billion rubles have been spent on preparatory work, with an estimated further 60 billion needed, while the ruble’s value has fallen to about one euro‑cent.
