Japanese markets rally as Nikkei rises and TOPIX hits record high

Japanese equity markets saw significant movement as the Nikkei 225 rose by 553.84 yen to close at 67,524.06 yen. The TOPIX index reached a new all-time high during the session. The rally was largely driven by optimism in the artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors, following positive cues from Wall Street and cooling U.S. inflation data.

In the semiconductor space, companies like Advantest, Tokyo Electron, and Taiyo Yuden saw notable gains. However, the market saw mixed results in other sectors; for instance, Sanrio shares dropped 18.12% to 1,191 yen despite reporting record first-quarter sales and operating profits, as the decline reflected market expectations and profit-taking.

On the macroeconomic front, Japan's Producer Price Index (PPI) for July rose 7.2% year-on-year, which was slightly below market projections. Meanwhile, the USD/JPY exchange rate fluctuated around the 159 level as investors awaited further U.S. economic indicators.
