Putin warns of Russian military response amid NATO tensions
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on Western governments to “live in harmony,” warning that Russia will respond militarily to any aggression. While stating that Moscow holds no aggressive intentions toward the European continent and is open to restoring diplomatic and commercial ties, Putin criticized recent European naval exercises in the Baltic Sea. He accused EU states of a double standard, noting they practice the interception of civilian vessels while condemning similar actions in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.
Simultaneously, tensions within NATO have been highlighted by Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico. Fico stated that he would do everything in his power to ensure Slovakia is not dragged into a military conflict resulting from NATO’s Article 5, which mandates collective defense in the event of an attack on a member state. His comments come amid rising concerns regarding Russian provocations and the security of NATO's eastern flank.
