Nicholas Brandram, linked to Putney Pusher case, found dead in London

Nicholas Brandram, a 44-year-old banker and former British Army captain, was found dead at his home in Chiswick, West London, on September 15. Brandram, a descendant of the Greek and Danish royal families, had recently been under investigation by the Metropolitan Police in connection with the 2017 ‘Putney Pusher’ case, where a woman was shoved toward an oncoming bus on Putney Bridge.

The Metropolitan Police described the death as ‘unexpected but not suspicious.’ However, Brandram’s family has issued a statement claiming he took his own life following ‘months of immense pressure’ and stigma caused by the investigation. They contend there was no forensic evidence linking him to the 2017 incident and criticized the police for arresting him rather than inviting him for an interview, alleging that the subsequent release of information by the police press team led to public speculation and his identification.

Brandram had a distinguished background, having served in Iraq, Bosnia, and Afghanistan before transitioning to private banking at institutions including HSBC. The investigation into the Putney Bridge assault, which originally closed in 2018, had been reopened this summer, leading to Brandram’s arrest in June 2026. He was released shortly before his death without being formally charged.
