PV Sindhu addresses athlete funding and recent performance

Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has responded to criticisms regarding funding cuts that reportedly forced Indian shuttlers to cover their own expenses during a recent European tour. The tour included competitions in Finland, Denmark, France, and Germany.

Sindhu argued that supporting athletes should be viewed as an investment in the country’s sporting future rather than a burden on the system. She highlighted the financial disparity in professional badminton, noting that while top tennis players earn significant sums even in early rounds, badminton players face high costs for travel, coaches, and support teams despite much lower prize money for early exits.

On the court, Sindhu has shown a resurgence in form, returning to the world top six. Following recent performances in Nagoya, Paris, and Germany, she appears well-positioned to qualify for the season-ending World Tour Finals in December. Observers have noted improvements in her physical conditioning, agility, and mental resilience as she looks toward future Olympic cycles.
