PV Sindhu appointed IOA Athletes Commission chairperson

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has been appointed as the chairperson of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Athletes Commission. Indian hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh will serve as the vice-chairperson.

Both Sindhu and Singh were elected unopposed, as they were the sole candidates for their respective positions. Under International Olympic Committee rules, these leadership roles must be held by one male and one female athlete.

Additionally, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and swimmer Sajan Prakash were elected as athlete representatives to the IOA General Body. These four members will serve four-year terms from 2026 to 2030. As part of their roles, Sindhu and Singh will also join the IOA Executive Council following the national Olympic body's elections scheduled for December 5.
