PVEM leader calls for stricter candidate vetting in Guerrero
Karen Castrejón Trujillo, national leader of the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM), has called for stricter mechanisms to vet political candidates in Guerrero. The proposal aims to prevent individuals linked to organized crime from entering electoral processes or utilizing illicit funds during campaigns.
Castrejón Trujillo argued that standard criminal record checks are insufficient to guarantee that candidates are free from criminal ties. She proposed a comprehensive review involving the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and financial intelligence units to verify candidate backgrounds and the origins of campaign resources. Additionally, she emphasized the need for security authorities to detect potential risks or outstanding debts that could compromise the electoral process.
