PVR INOX ordered to pay ₹75,000 over movie advertisement delays

The Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered the multiplex chain PVR INOX to pay ₹75,000 in compensation, litigation costs, and punitive damages following a consumer complaint.

The case was initiated by a Hyderabad-based advocate regarding a screening of the film ‘Kubera’ on June 20, 2025. Although the movie was scheduled to begin at 10:35 pm, the actual screening did not start until approximately 10:52 pm due to an extended period of commercial advertisements and trailers.

The advocate alleged that the 22-minute delay constituted an unfair trade practice. He further noted that the late start delayed his return home. While PVR INOX defended the advertisements as part of its business activity and included public service films, the Commission dismissed these arguments, ruling that the method of screening commercials fell outside the prescribed framework.
