PwC acknowledges AI‑generated advisory reports contain fabricated sources
Four advisory reports produced by PwC's Middle‑East office on artificial intelligence and electric vehicles were found to be riddled with AI‑hallucinated content. The documents cited non‑existent articles, a fictitious MIT study, and had footnotes in a non‑chronological order. The issues were uncovered by GPTZero's hallucination‑detection tool and reported by the Financial Times.
PwC said it is taking the matter seriously, will correct the erroneous supporting sources, and reiterated its quality‑control processes for responsible AI use. The incident highlights risks associated with heavy reliance on AI‑generated material in consulting work and has raised reputational concerns for the firm.
