PwC survey sees 22% annual growth for women's sports in CEE

PwC’s CEE Sports Survey 2026 examined the sports market in Central and Eastern Europe and found that many large venues are under‑used, presenting a clear opportunity for reform. The study projects that women’s sports could expand by roughly 22 % each year, driven by stable public support, improving infrastructure and strong local engagement.

Partner Peter Havalda of PwC Slovakia said the sector should “forge its own path rather than copy the methods of the most developed markets.” The survey also calls for more transparent public financing, better allocation of resources and stronger fan involvement, as highlighted by PwC Hungary specialist Bence Dolezsár. Only 30‑35 % of adults in the region meet WHO activity guidelines, compared with about 41 % across the EU, underscoring the need for increased participation and efficient use of facilities.
