Pye Dubois, Rush lyricist and Canadian songwriter, dies at 77
Canadian lyricist and poet Pye Dubois, widely recognized for his collaborations with the rock band Rush and Max Webster, has died at the age of 77.
Dubois, born Paul Phillip Woods, was a frequent collaborator with Rush vocalist Neil Peart. Over a period of 20 years, he co-wrote the lyrics for four of the band's songs: ‘Tom Sawyer’, ‘Force 10’, ‘Between Sun And Moon’, and ‘Test For Echo’. His final credit with Rush was for the 1996 track ‘Test For Echo’.
In addition to his work with Rush, Dubois was a key figure in the Toronto rock scene through his involvement with Max Webster, where he worked alongside frontman Kim Mitchell. Following the band's dissolution, he continued his songwriting work with Mitchell's solo projects. Dubois was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021.
