Pyeongtaek City to expand pediatric emergency medical network

Pyeongtaek City has announced plans to expand its pediatric emergency medical network to prevent delays in treatment for children. Following a tragic incident where a 3-year-old boy died after being transported to a distant hospital due to a lack of local facilities, Mayor Choi Won-yong pledged to increase the number of Dalbit Children's Hospitals from three to five by the first half of 2027.

The city intends to designate two additional hospitals, focusing on the high-density population area of Godeok New Town and the medically underserved western region. Dalbit Children's Hospitals provide outpatient services during nights and holidays.

In addition to expanding these clinics, the city is working toward the long-term establishment of a specialized pediatric emergency medical center designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This center would include dedicated specialists, nursing staff, and facilities for intensive care and emergency surgeries. Pyeongtaek currently lacks such a center, often relying on transfers to cities like Suwon or Cheonan for severe cases.
