Pyili residents protest migration issues in Kos
Residents of Pyili, Kos, held a protest on Wednesday, October 21, during the inauguration of new sports facilities by Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris. The demonstrators raised several concerns regarding the local migration structure and its impact on the community.
Key demands included increased police presence in the area, the removal of a camp located near a children's playground, and improved sanitation to prevent the area from resembling a landfill. Residents specifically demanded an end to the discharge of sewage from the migration facility into the Agia Marina river.
In response, Minister Plevris announced that starting November 1, sewage will be transported via a private contractor. He also committed to funding a connection to the local sewage network and promised the immediate restoration of the children's playground. Additionally, the Minister pledged funding for a new public school and other infrastructure projects, urging local authorities to propose smaller projects for faster implementation.
