Pyrenees mountain rescues increase during holiday weekend

Emergency services in the Spanish Pyrenees conducted numerous mountain rescues over a busy weekend. In the Huesca region, the Guardia Civil's GREIM unit rescued 11 people in Sallent de Gállego and Canfranc.

Specific incidents in Sallent de Gállego included the evacuation of two young men after one fell while climbing Anayet peak, suffering a sprained ankle, and the medical evacuation of a hiker suspected of having a heart attack near the Respomuso Refuge. Both operations involved aerial support from the Huesca Air Unit.

In the Lleida region, the Bombers de la Generalitat performed six separate rescues, primarily within the Aigüestortes i l’Alt Pirineu Natural Park. These operations included assisting a 71-year-old woman with a foot injury, locating disoriented hikers near Pic de Comalesbienes and Besiberri Sud, and assisting individuals lost near Estany d’Areste and the Contraix area.
