Pyrotechnics seized at Ploiești stadium before Beitar Jerusalem‑Austria Vienna match
On 6 August 2026, Romanian gendarmerie carried out preventive checks ahead of the UEFA Conference League match between Israeli club Beitar Jerusalem and Austrian club FK Austria Vienna at Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploiești. Officers discovered a hidden backpack in the second tier containing 50 pyrotechnic items and, during body searches, found a supporter with suspect substances concealed in a cigarette pack. In a related operation, a taxi driver in Bucharest was intercepted while distributing dozens of pyrotechnic devices to supporters and was found with four nitrogen cylinders. All materials were seized and the individuals were handed over to the prosecutorial authorities. The police reiterated that possession of pyrotechnics is a criminal offence under Romanian law and warned all fans attending the match of strict enforcement.
