Pyszne.pl to lay off 4,500 couriers in Poland

Pyszne.pl, a major food delivery provider in Poland and part of the international Just Eat Takeaway group, has announced plans to lay off approximately 4,500 couriers. The company intends to transition these workers to external fleet partners.

According to Stanisław Kierwiak, a courier and board member of the Konfederacja Pracy union, this shift represents a significant degradation of working conditions. Previously, couriers operated under mandate contracts with hourly rates and company-provided equipment such as thermal bags and clothing. Under the new model, hourly rates and equipment allowances are expected to disappear, and there is no guarantee of continued employment through the new partners.

In response to regulatory scrutiny, Pyszne.pl Managing Director Arkadiusz Kurpicz issued an open letter to the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy and the Council for Labour Protection. In the letter, Kurpicz argued against increased oversight by the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP), claiming such actions are politically motivated and that maintaining high labor standards would negatively impact restaurants, couriers, and consumers alike. The dispute occurs as the European Union prepares to implement a directive regulating platform work.
