PZPN confirms referee error in Widzew Łódź vs. Śląsk Wrocław match

The Polish Football Association (PZPN) has officially confirmed a refereeing error during the Ekstraklasa match between Widzew Łódź and Śląsk Wrocław, which ended in a 3-3 draw. The error occurred during stoppage time when Śląsk player Ennis Shabani made contact with Widzew's Emil Kornvig. The PZPN Referee Committee stated that the contact should have been classified as a foul and that a penalty kick should have been awarded to Widzew.

According to the PZPN analysis, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team failed to recommend a video review of the incident. Widzew coach Aleksandar Vukovic expressed significant frustration following the match, noting that the missed penalty cost his team a potential victory.

Zbigniew Boniek commented on the incident, noting the intense pressure placed on Polish referees. He suggested that the scrutiny from both clubs and the media creates a difficult environment for officials, while also addressing the conduct of active referees on social media.
