PZPN President Cezary Kulesza faces internal pressure amid scandals
Cezary Kulesza, President of the Polish Football Association (PZPN), is facing significant internal opposition following a series of controversies. During a recent board meeting, Kulesza reportedly refused to remove Secretary General Łukasz Wachowski, despite a written vote of no confidence signed by eleven board members. This vote followed an incident involving alleged secret recordings of Kulesza by Wachowski.
The association is also navigating financial and performance-related challenges. Marcin Animucki, PZPN Vice President and Ekstraklasa SA President, noted that the organization is investigating a potential VAT tax discrepancy of approximately 7 million PLN involving Publicon. This investigation is being conducted with professional assistance from KPMG.
Additional pressures on the PZPN leadership include the Polish national team's failure to qualify for major tournaments and the withdrawal of several sponsors. While the PZPN statutes allow for the removal of the president before the end of his term in 2029, such a move requires a two-thirds majority vote from delegates at a general assembly.
