Q-STAR and Beyont release Quantum Professional Standard

Q-STAR and Beyont have released the ‘Quantum Professional Standard (QSS-P) ver. 1.0’, a framework designed to standardize the roles and skills required for the research, social implementation, and commercialization of quantum technology.

Unlike traditional job titles, the QSS-P organizes professionals by their specific roles within the quantum ecosystem. The standard categorizes talent into three main types: quantum hardware engineers, quantum software engineers, and quantum business strategists. Within these categories, 14 distinct roles have been defined, each featuring four levels of skill based on autonomy and responsibility.

The initiative aims to provide a ‘common language’ for companies, research institutions, educational bodies, and government agencies to facilitate recruitment, training, and organizational design. This follows the previously released ‘Quantum Literacy Standard (QSS-L)’, which focuses on foundational knowledge for all digital workers. Together, they form the ‘Quantum Skill Standard.’

Developed as part of the Cabinet Office’s ‘BRIDGE’ program, the project is a collaborative effort involving Beyont, the Kyushu University Mass Fore Industry Institute, and Q-STAR. The standard is intended to be a living document that will be updated continuously to keep pace with rapid technological advancements in quantum computing, communication, and sensing.
