Qair secures €37.9 million for solar projects in Chad

Renewable energy producer Qair has secured the first disbursement of a €37.9 million financing package to construct two hybrid solar power plants with battery storage in Chad. Located in Gassi and Lamadji, the facilities will have a combined capacity of 30 MWp and 8 MWh, with an expected annual production of 65 GWh.

The projects are part of a framework agreement with the Republic of Chad and include a 20-year power purchase agreement with the national electricity utility, Tchadelec. The energy produced is expected to meet the annual needs of approximately 260,000 residents while enhancing national grid stability and energy sovereignty.

Financing was provided through several international institutions. The African Development Bank (AfDB) and Proparco each contributed €15.2 million in loans. Additionally, the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) provided €6 million in reimbursable grants, and Proparco/Agence Française de Développement added €1.5 million in supplementary funding. A partial risk guarantee of €8 million was issued by the African Development Fund and the Green Climate Fund to support the project's financial structure.
