Qantas Freight and Australia Post expand capacity with new Airbus freighters

Qantas Freight and Australia Post are expanding their domestic air freight capacity through the acquisition of three Airbus A321 Passenger-to-Freighter (A321P2F) aircraft. The first of these aircraft has arrived in Western Sydney, ahead of the Black Friday and Christmas peak delivery periods.

The fleet expansion is expected to increase capacity across the Qantas-operated dedicated freighter network by up to 20 per cent. Each new aircraft is capable of carrying up to 20,000 Australia Post and StarTrack parcels per flight. These larger aircraft will replace the smaller BAE 146-300 freighters, which will improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions.

The new freighters will support overnight and next-day deliveries across Australia, servicing all domestic terminals, including the new 24-hour freight terminal at Western Sydney International Airport. The remaining two A321P2F aircraft are scheduled to join the fleet by March 2027. This investment follows a recent 10-year renewal of the partnership between Qantas Freight and Australia Post.
