Qaraoun Dam road remains closed despite rehabilitation approval

The road leading to the Qaraoun Dam remains closed to traffic following two months of disputes regarding its reopening. While the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has obtained permission from the mechanism committee to begin rehabilitation works and repair damaged culverts, this authorization is strictly limited to maintenance and does not permit the resumption of vehicle traffic.

The closure is causing increasing difficulties for local residents and students, particularly those attempting to reach the Islamic University near the entrance of Sahmar as the academic year begins. Although the Litani Authority has completed maintenance at the dam entrance and the Lebanese Army has facilitated the repair works, no official date has been set for when the road will be reopened to the public.
